What is data transfer?

Whenever a visitor comes to your site, data is sent from our web servers to your visitor's computer. This data can be composed of web pages, images, movies, sound files, programs, compressed files, or anything else on your site that can be viewed or downloaded by visitors. When all this requested data is added up, then you have your total data transfer.

Data sent by email and ftp also contributes towards your allowance.

Each site hosted with us, has a monthly data transfer limit.  You can check your data transfer total via your control panel.

What happens if I exceed my limit?

If you do exceed your limit you will be billed a small surcharge of £15 per 1000MB.  However, rest assured, that very few of our customers exceed their limit.

Can I use FrontPage Extensions?

Yes, FrontPage 2002 extensions are installed on our Windows 2003 servers.

You should only request the installation of the server extensions if you intend to use Microsoft's FrontPage software to create and upload your web site. Once FrontPage extensions have been installed, you will not be able to upload your files and manage your site using FTP.

Note: Due to the shared environment (virtual hosting), FrontPage subwebs, usage analysis and user management features are disabled.

How reliable are the facilties?

All accounts are hosted on mirrored servers in a highly sophisticated data centre.  Uninterrupted connectivity is assured by the resilient network and our hosting facilties consistently achieve 100% availability and market leading performance in independent tests.

How do I transfer my domain name to you?

If you already have a domain name registered or you prefer to register your domains with a third party, but have taken a hosting account with us, you can choose to either leave the domain name with the current registrar and just point it to your account, or you can transfer it fully to our control so that we can handle any renewals on your behalf as and when they come up.

With any domain name, please first send us an email to let us know what domain you wish to transfer to us.  We can then prepare our system to take it.

Completing the transfer is a straightforward process but varies depending on the extension of the domain name.  (N.B. Some registrars will charge a small fee to transfer domain names away from them - please check with your registrar first to avoid any unwanted surprises!)

UK Domain Names (.co.uk, .org.uk .ltd.uk & .plc.uk)
To transfer a UK domain you must contact the current hosting company, and request that they amend the record for your domain name as follows.

IPS Tag S2CONSULTING
Primary Nameserver ns1.turbodns.co.uk (195.10.228.174)
Secondary Nameserver ns2.turbodns.co.uk (81.21.65.135)

Please note that the propagation of the name server changes and the domain thus being hosted on our network may take up to 48 hours.

GTLD Domain Names (.com, .net, .org, .biz & .info)
To transfer a GTLD domain onto our network, you must have its name servers updated as follows.

Primary Nameserver ns1.turbodns.co.uk (195.10.228.174)
Secondary Nameserver ns2.turbodns.co.uk (81.21.65.135)

The propagation of name server changes and the domain thus being hosted on our network may take up to 48 hours. Once complete the hosting of the web site and email for this domain name will be handled by your account, however the administrative control of your domain name will remain with its existing registrar and we cannot manage or renew the domain name for you at this point.

In order to ensure that we can provide the best possible service, we recommend that you ask us to initiate a GTLD transfer request for the domain name.  The initiation of a GTLD transfer requires the renewal of the domain name for one year at the same time and its existing expiry date will be extended by 12 months once the transfer is complete.  Our renewal prices can be found on our domain registration page.

For a domain name to be eligible for a GTLD transfer it must have been registered with its current registrar for at least 60 days and must not expire within the next 15 days. Even if all of these criteria are met, the current registrar may still refuse the transfer for any reason including but not limited to a dispute regarding the domain name or fees for its registration being outstanding. You are advised to check with the current registrar that they will allow a registrar transfer prior to initiating one.
